BBC VOD ON A ROLL

The recent times have seen Video On Demand services come to the spot light with more and more people opting for them. For starters, one may simply have access to an almost endless library of films which can be directly streamed to one’s set top box from online. This is against having to watch what the broadcaster has in store on a channel as scheduled. All the leading companies Sky, Virgin Media and BT are all set their own VOD services with more and more movie titles and other video content being added and updated every day.

Amidst all this, BBC iPlayer continues to rock the party even as an increasing number of people download video content from the VOD service. A recent release of the VOD’s monthly performance is simply testimonial of this fact that the service is a block buster hit already and had a clean sweep the recent Christmas season. With 145 million requests for TV as well as radio programmes in the month of December 2010 itself, iPlayer was simply on a roll. This was indeed the third month in running when it led the charts with seeing the most number of requests for downloads.
Then again when it comes to the 145 million requests, it was the demand for TV shows that led with 89.7 million with BBC iPlayer.

Then there was also Come Fly With Me that reached the top five spot with as many as 783,000 requests. Daniel Danker, the BBC general manager for programmes and on-demand is all pumped up with seeing the brilliant results that have come out as shown by the statistics. He is for once greatly looking forward to the BBC iPlayer scaling even greater heights. Right from game consoles, connected TVs or for that matter the mobiles phones, BBC iPlayer was unstoppable and effortlessly at that.
