Things that can ensure safety while shopping online

The online shopping concept was first implemented by Michael Aldrich of Redifon Computers in the UK in 1979, selling systems in the UK which was followed by the B2B Online Shopping in 1981, B2C Home Shopping in 1984, and Worldwide Online Shopping in 1992. Online shopping has come a long way, thanks to the benefits it offers to the consumers such as convenience to shop from home/office, time saving, no restriction of boundaries etc. However, there is still a lot of apprehension about internet shopping because of the security reasons.

There are a number of simple things which if followed by the user, can ensure a safe online shopping experience. One of the most important things is to use well known and secure sites for shopping. One can check with the department of consumer affairs to see if a particular site is not recommended.

Usually, an online company that states privacy statements, product information, conditions of purchase, testimonials, reviews etc. can be considered as safe sites for shopping. When it comes to security issues related to credit card, in most countries, the credit card is limited to a certain amount to minimize the possibility of unauthorized use. Also one can make use of the single use credit card, which will expire immediately after their use so a potential hacker cannot retrieve any funds from you!

Choosing different passwords than the ones used for email accounts, making sure you review the business' return, refund, and shipping and handling policies etc. would ensure that you don’t miss out on the benefits of online shopping because of the security concerns!
